We're all sensitive types really

No really, all us metalheads are creative, senitive types - with personality types close to fans of classical music...

Psychologists say that all who listen to metal can be defined as having: "low self-esteem, creative, not hard-working, not outgoing, gentle, at ease."

Errrr, I'm sure we're creative and some of us may have low self-esteem at times, but gentle? Sensitive? The authors of this research have obviously never been in the middle of a full-on mosh pit, or headbanged along to some classic metal and thrash.

As for not outgoing...that must explain why air guitaring is going out of fashion...

Reach the story here and if you want you can even take part in the survey by following the links. Be at ease with yourself and be creative when your filling it out, and remember to show your sensitive side!

The question is, if that report had been on the radio would you have been able to hear it? ;-)

And on the same day the Royal National Institute for the Deaf was on radio and TV warning to wear ear plugs at gigs, and after you've heard your favourite song to move back from the front...seems they've never been to a metal gig; moving back at Spring & Airbrake and Mandella Hall is as tricky as getting to the front.

Speaking as a veteran of way too many years of gig going I can say my hearing isn't affected at all - but I am getting much better at lip reading :)

If the ear plugs got stuck because of head banging? Or an ear plug fell out and you were trying to look on the ground for it and ended up being trampled to death?

We've had Vietnam war veterans and now HM Gig veterans, whatever next? ;-)

The old Norse tale is of a valiant warrior who made the mistake of living too long. As a consequence none of the young warriors quite believed that any warrior could have completed his tales of derring do without dying and crossing the Rainbow Bridge to Valhalla. Thus he was left in the corner and treated with derision when stories of slaughtering dragons and claiming new lands were told.

Those Wrinkly Rockers like myself fear the day when as 50-year-olds our stories of having seen Metallica back in the 80s, Ozzy when he was still good etc are treated with disbelief at gigs. Thus, until then our bodies are punished in the vain hope that(a) our haggard demeanour will convince the young pups that we really were there; or (b) that the wasted, wrinkled, beer bellied look will become fashionable again...
