Metallica's long touted Milton Keynes date has been confirmed for...Knebworth on Sunday August 2nd. Last time I was at Knebworth was in 1985 with Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers tour (UFO, Blackfoot, Meat Loaf and Mama's Boys on the bill....giving away my age here!), and I recall it as being one of the better festival venues in the UK.
But more importantly Metallica have seen fit to say they will definitely not be at Knebworth on Saturday August 1st...wonder if they could be setting up a date somewhere else in the British Isles that day...

Download announced a few bands last night and I'm pretty sure we are gonna go to that. YES!!!
Still hoping for date on our island for Metallica.
You know it's going to be Dublin if it's anywhere here :( After the fiasco that was Marley Park queue last year, and the fecking exchange rate at the minute I don't know if I can face another trip to Dublin so soon. For once I'd like to see them come North of the border for a change, It's 21 years now and they've did 7 show in the south.
All I know for definite is that there are negotiations for a Metallica Irish date, and whether it is north or south will depend on a lot of issues, including the exchange rate. I also know that there are negotiations around the bands that are playing at Knebworth and Donington to see if Belfast and Dublin slots can be fitted into the schedule. Beyond that I will not be posting anything until confirmed other than the regular Metllica rumour mill...
Last time we went to Download, about 4 of the bands came overe here for a wee bash in the King's Hall. Machine Head were the headline act, but I'm pretty certain they didn't finish the night.
So, yeah, looks like Donnington wins over Rock Am Ring this year. Two very different festivals, and Rock Am Ring was pretty incredible, but it'll be good to get back to Download.
Metallica. Yeah, it would be awesome. But I did see them twice last year so it's not a big deal if I don't see them this year. But to see them play Belfast, that would just be something else. That'd be special.
Especially if Lamb Of God came back with them.
Ahh, that was when Machine Head had to leave early for Donington, Chimira opened and Killswitch Engage closed. Lamb of God and Mastodon are on the Knebworth bill with Metallica. As you know Heaven and Hell, Slipknot, The Prodigy, Motley Crue, Korn, Dragonforce, Devildriver and Pendulum are the acts confirmed for Download, so we may see one or two heading our way in June time...let's put it this way there have been a few tentative enquiries on the availability of the Ulster Hall in June :) How definite that turns out to be, we can only wait and see
The rumour mills keeps on turning: http://www.metalireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32239
Saw that Wayne - at the last count I heave heard 7 Irish venues proposed as potential venues for Metallica...the last I heard officially is that before the end of the month the final listings of Metallica's summer dates will be confirmed, and that Ireland north or south is subject to negotiation at this time. The outcome of those negotiations will, of course, come down to cold hard cash. While the band have some (and I stress some) input to where they want to play the sheer cost of keeping a fully staffed tour on the road means they are destined to allow the business managers have the final say. In other words no-one knows for definite!
Latest talk is four Download acts to play the Ulster Hall on the Friday night, and another three on the Sunday: its looking like Sunday acts on Friday and vice versa, if you get my drift...
